Worldwide Weirdies. I've been enjoying coming across these scans of Ken Reid's full-page illustrations for Whoopee comic in the late 70's. £2 was the prize awarded to the imaginative tykes who sent in a winning title. Think my favourite here is 'Shiverpool Docks'...

Ah yes, he drew 'Faceache' in Buster!

Its criminal that there isn't a decent book collection of his work. I think he was as good as Leo Baxendale!

Whoa! Great pics John ...although I have no memory of him doing this stuff at all (which is odd seeing as I am most definitely of that "certain age")

A real Basil Wolverton / EC Comics thing going on there too, don'tcha think? Fab lettering too.

I'd forgotten all about these morbid "weirdies", thanks for jogging my failing memory...

In his recent (on-line) Comics Journal interview, John Ridgeway talks about re-colouring Ken Reid's "Fudge The Elf" wih a view to getting them re-published.
I recently bought a copy of "Don't Tread On My Rosaries"--amazing stuff! It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy knowing that "we" have a British cartoonist who's work can favourably be compared to the great North American "alternative" cartoonists!

Respectfully,

Ant
